Cross-Cultural and Cross-Faith Consulting Session chosen for the 2006 Alliance for Nonprofit Management Annual Conference

Durham, NC (January 6, 2006) - “Cross-Cultural and Cross-Faith Consulting: Concepts in Cultural Competence” will be a featured breakout session during the Alliance for Nonprofit Management Annual Conference to be held in Los Angeles in July 2006. Naomi Takeuchi of 1000 Cranes Business Consulting of Durham, NC and Rev. Chester A. France, Jr. of the C. Whitney Group of Baltimore, MD will lead participants in the interactive session.

“Consulting with nonprofits, businesses and consultants in the methods of cultural competence increasingly will be understood as a necessity for our practice,” explained Naomi Takeuchi of 1000 Cranes Business Consulting. “Classic diversity consulting focuses primarily on demographics and statistics where management looks to ensure a diverse representation within the existing system. Cultural competence and awareness, however, transforms businesses where management looks to bring out the best qualities in all staff members by understanding a worker’s life experience.”

“Culture in this respect not only applies to ethnic culture but also cultural aspects related to age, sexual preference and religious beliefs,” Takeuchi added. “This applies to American-born workers, immigrant workers and to workers located in global outsource centers. The alignment of this session with the Cultural Competency Initiative launched by the Alliance for Nonprofit Management will help further this effort. This conference provides a forum for nonprofits nationwide to discuss current trends facing the nonprofit world, and cultural competency will be a necessity for all organizations moving forward.”
