White House National Conference
Durham, NC (Februrary 27, 2006) - Naomi Takeuchi of 1000 Cranes Business Consulting will attend the White House Faith-Based and Community Initiatives Conference at the Hilton Washington on Thursday, March 9, 2006. This invitation-only event will highlight the important role corporations and foundations play in funding social services. The National Conference will serve as a "Philanthropy Summit" and will emphasize the effectiveness of partnerships between private givers and grassroots groups and explore how these innovative relationships can be fostered so that local communities are best served.
Naomi Takeuchi is a strategic planning and leadership consultant assisting organizations through thoughtful business consulting, strategic planning and effective communication. Serving as a lecturer for the Duke Certificate Program in Nonprofit Management since June 2002, one of her offerings includes a Federal Grant Writing class addressing these Faith-Based Community Initiatives. Naomi will also be co-leading a breakout session at the Alliance for Nonprofit Management Conference in Los Angeles August 2006 regarding the nuances of consulting with faith-based organizations.
President Bush created the White House Office of Faith-Based and Community Initiatives and Centers for Faith-Based and Community Initiatives in ten Federal agencies to lead a determined attack on need by strengthening and expanding the role of FBCOs in providing social services. The Federal government has worked to accomplish this mission through an array of regulatory and policy reforms, legislative efforts, and public outreach to FBCOs. Additionally, by making information about Federal grants more accessible and the application process less burdensome, the Initiative has empowered FBCOs to compete more effectively for funds. The ultimate beneficiaries are America's poor, who are best served when the Federal government's partners are the providers most capable of meeting their needs.
